holistic solutions
Pooling expertise and making targeted use of synergies: Kitzig Design Studios combines three companies under one roof. With Kitzig Interior Design, Kitzig Identities and The Flat, we unite a wide variety of disciplines across markets and sectors. We think and design holistically, merging interior design and architecture with interior styling in our work as well as brand design and communication.
Our multidisciplinary team works in close collaboration, drawing on a wealth of experience to develop comprehensive, end-to-end solutions. This allows us to produce bespoke design concepts – emotional, precise and authentic – for customers around the world.
Olaf Kitzig founded the Kitzig Interior Design GmbH – Architecture Group studio in his home town of Lippstadt in 1998. The company continued to grow with the opening of additional offices in Bochum (2001) and Düsseldorf (2018).
A strategic reorganisation followed in 2017: the communication design and product management divisions were transferred to independent companies – Kitzig Identities GmbH and Kitzig Details (now The Flat GmbH) – and consolidated under the newly founded holding company Kitzig Design Studios GmbH.
The company is continuing to grow internationally and organically in 2026 with a new location in the United States in Highpoint, North Carolina.

Olaf Kitzig
Always moving forward, always driving for more – this mantra defines his mindset: Olaf Kitzig is driven by a desire for continuous self-improvement and an unquenchable thirst for knowledge, both as a designer and as an entrepreneur.
A passion for aesthetics and for designing beautiful spaces and objects has motivated him practically all his life. He loves and thrives on the creative process – and is passionate about using good, carefully considered design to evoke emotions and create memories. His fascination lies in constantly experimenting and creating something surprising: by combining new materials, looking at things from a new perspective and breaking with old habits. This is the only way to create distinctive interiors and spaces that resonate with people and move them – and that bring brands to life by telling a story.
His own story also has a clear aim: combining design with independence. After completing his training as a painter, varnisher and display designer, he graduated as a state-certified interior designer (Fachschule des Möbelhandels in Cologne). He then gained experience as a trainee and freelancer with a number of interior design firms abroad, including in the UK and the United States. He laid the foundation stone for Kitzig Design Studios in 1998 when he founded Kitzig Interior Design – Architecture Group in Lippstadt.

During Donata’s studies in architecture, she developed a keen interest in design and honed her technical and planning skills. She also developed a special focus on the sensitive handling of existing buildings during her studies.
She then specialised in project development with a master’s degree and added economic and strategic aspects of property and urban development to her architectural expertise. Countless journeys through Europe instilled her with a passion for historical architecture – a perspective that continues to inspire her work and projects to this day.

Viki Kitzig
For Viki, the moment when an idea has been made real, given a physical form, and the project is handed over for its intended purpose remains, to this day, the most fulfilling part of her work. She especially relishes the moment when clients and guests first experience a newly created space – when form, function, colour and materials have created a harmonious atmosphere.
Viki studied architecture at the Technical University of Dortmund and graduated from the University of Fine Arts Hamburg. During her studies, she also gained insight into the multifaceted world of hospitality as well as formative experience working at the Kunsthalle Hamburg.
After her early years as a freelance planner in interior design, she completed her first building project – followed by many more. The journey from design to completed project continues to define her concept of architecture and design.
Viki is now Managing Director of Kitzig Interior Design and manages the Bochum location. Her focus is on developing independent design solutions and maintaining and expanding long-term customer relationships.

Rebecca Schmücker
Rebecca has been Managing Director of Kitzig Identities, together with Olaf Kitzig, since 2017. She loves the interplay between graphics, space and atmosphere – moments when design becomes tangible and brands can be experienced.
While studying communication design at Düsseldorf University of Applied Sciences, she spent a semester abroad in the Netherlands and received a scholarship from Bremer Design GmbH – experiences that profoundly broadened her perspective on design. She then worked at an exhibition design studio in Münster – a formative job that shaped her passion for spaces where graphics, space, information and staging are merged to form a coherent whole.
Rebecca initially joined Kitzig Interior Design in 2014. This work gave rise to the idea of more closely linking brand design with spatial design. Kitzig Identities was founded in 2017 – a studio that works precisely where these two aspects of design intersect.
